On Sunday, May 17, the people of The Bronx take over Mosholu Parkway for the grand finale of Bronx Week 2026 — the borough’s signature annual celebration, now in its 54th year.
This year’s theme is “The Bronx Leads,” is a declaration that feels especially meaningful this spring. This Bronx Week nearly didn’t happen at all, when the Borough President’s office announced budget pressures that threatened to cancel the tradition. The community organized to bring it back, and that resilience is exactly what “The Bronx Leads” is about.
The Bronx is one of nation’s most vibrant cultural forges of jazz, Latin jazz, salsa, hip hop, and more. In the 1970s, the Bronx got a bad reputation for political reasons. Developers wanted the land and tried to get rid of the people living there by abandoning all services. The Bronx went through a hard time, but the people stayed. Hip Hop has taken over the world and influenced just about every other culture on Earth. That’s why We Love The Bronx. ❤️
When I’m in NYC, I feel most at home in The Bronx. It’s full of my people and the food is great. The only problem is that if I’m singing and dancing on the streets, people think I’m nuts. They don’t think that in the Caribbean.
Bronx Walk of Fame Inductees
This year’s inductees are:
Lenny “Lenny S” Santiago: a Puerto Rican-born, Bronx-raised, Senior Vice President of Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s right hand for over 20 years. 🇵🇷
Darlene Rodriguez: Puerto Rican journalist, Bronx native, and co-anchor of Today in New York on WNBC. 🇵🇷
Darrin Henson — choreographer, dancer, actor, and producer. 🇺🇸
Roberto “Fanum” Escanio — Dominican-American content creator and streamer. 🇩🇴
The People’s Choice Award goes to Jaime “Jimmy” Rodriguez Jr. of Jimmy’s Bronx Café. 🇵🇷
The Key to the Borough goes to The Hon. Robert Abrams, the son of of Belarusian Jewish immigrants who became a former New York State Attorney General and Bronx Borough President. This is well deserved. Many New York neighborhoods were Jewish before they were Latin. We grew up together and New York’s Jewish community is usually protective of the Latin community. ✡️
Tourism Awards to the Bronx Children’s Museum and Pregones/PRTT Theatre. 🇵🇷
Each of these artists and venues has a unique creation story of how they overcame the odds to become leaders of The Bronx, and American culture. They opened the doors that we can walk through now.
