FEBRUARY

Argentine Folk Spanish Flamenco Jazz

Emilio Solla and Antonia Lizana play a unique blend of Argentine folk and Spanish flamenco jazz from their 2023 album “El Siempre Mar,” at Dizzy’s Club in Jazz at Lincoln Center; on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 7pm and 9pm. From $20. jazz.org 🇦🇷 🇪🇸

We know Solla from his work in New York’s Argentine tango dance community. He’s a great pianist. Argentine folk music reaches into gaucho and Indigenous traditions.

Both Cuban salsa and Argentine tango have clave from the habanera (Havana manera, or the way they dance in Cuba). For some reason clave blends perfectly with flamenco.

About Dizzy’s Club

Named for Dizzy Gillespie, one of the godfathers of both bebop and cubop Latin jazz, Dizzy’s Club is the supper club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the world’s premiere jazz institution.

You can go to Dizzy’s any night and the music will be great. Backstage is a window looking over Central Park and down 59th St.

Dizzy’s is a spectacular place for a date or a business dinner, especially on short notice. The gumbo is pretty good too!
