Pedro del Hierro Spring 2014 Collection

In her first Spring collection for the house of Pedro del Hierro, Creative Director Carmen March manages to put the carefree warmth of a Mediterranean summer breeze in the collection, and brings to mind the classic fabric and design of Mariano Fortuny.

Desigual Spring 2014 Collection

Spanish fashion house Desigual launched their Spring 2014 Collection with their first show at New York Fashion Week. It was a joy to watch.

Latin Fashion is different and important. We get dressed up and put on makeup to go to the corner bodega (convenience store).

The hallmarks of fashion are Latin from southern Europe. Italian and French fashion rule the roost. Fashion’s biggest ready-to-wear companies are Spanish.

American fashion is more English and influenced by California casual. I’m not sure whether we gained something or lost something in the trend towards casual. In Argentine Tango we say that you dance the suit. It’s true. You move differently in a costume than you do in street pajamas. People also respond to you differently whether you are wearing a costume or pajamas.

To each his/her own and in our post-modern time, anything goes. But how you dress is very much a part of your culture and who you are.
