Film at Lincoln Center screens independent and international films daily, and produces film festivals all year long, including the iconic New York Film Festival.

It’s a great place to see movies before their general release. Many independent films make their theatrical releases here. Like New York City, Film at Lincoln Center has a slight European focus. Many screenings include Q&As with directors, stars, filmmakers, and critics. If you are starstruck, this is a place for you. You can watch the Metropolitan Opera in The Met: Live in HD.

Thank you for sponsoring New York Latin Culture Magazine.

Brazilian Film

“Iracema” Trailer

“Iracema” (Iracema, uma transa amazônica, 1974) by Jorge Bodansky and Orlando Senna, is the story of a teenage Indigenous sex worker who teams up with a tough guy trucker hauling illegal hardwoods on the then new Trans-Amazonian Highway, as the government destroys the Amazon rainforest in the name of progress. This is a raw window into a past that mostly no longer exists. The film premiered at Cannes in 1975. Brazil’s military government banned it in the late 1970s, so it must be good. The film, in Portuguese with English subtitles, is at Film at Lincoln Center in Manhattan; on Wednesday, January 7 at 4pm; and Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 1:30pm. $20. 🇧🇷

Brazilian Film

“The Secret Agent” Trailer

“The Secret Agent Network” (O Agente Secreto, 2025) by Kleber Mendonça Filho, stars Wagner Moura (Narcos) as a man on the run from his past in 1970s Recife, Brazil (the director’s hometown of his youth). These were some crazy times during Brazil’s military dictatorship. The film is about maintaining your sense of self, while adapting to the pressures of government abuses of power. Brazilians are really good at that. Never thought we would be in this same place, but we are. Brazil’s 2026 Best International Feature Oscars entry won Best Director and Best Actor at Cannes. The film, in Portuguese with English subtitles, is at Film at Lincoln Center in Manhattan; from January 7-13, 2026. $21. 🇧🇷
