About the Bronx Museum for the Arts

The Bronx Museum of the Arts is unusual for being a major museum that really is about the community it serves.

It’s the art museum of The Bronx which is the cradle of Latin jazz, salsa, hip-hop, reggaeton and everything that goes with that. Legends are made here.

The Museum was founded in 1971 as a partnership between the Bronx Council on the Arts and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It moved to its current location in 1983. “The Accordion” expansion opened in 2006. From some angles it looks rather like a Cubist United Nations. That sort of describes The Bronx.

The Bronx is beautiful, and the Bronx Museum of the Arts is one of the best places to see that!
