L’Alliance New York (formerly French Institute Alliance Française or FIAF) is a French cultural center, language school, and library with French film, food, literary, and cultural programs. It produces New York’s big Bastille Day Celebration.

The L’Alliance New York Bastille Celebration (French Institute Alliance Français or FIAF) is on Madison Avenue, from 59th to 63rd St, in Manhattan’s Upper East Side; on Bastille Day, Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 12noon – 5pm. FREE with food and crafts for purchase. 🇫🇷

About L’Alliance New York

Alliance Française was founded in Paris in 1883 by a group of French intellectuals including Louis Pasteur and Jules Verne. Its funded by local operations with a little French government support. There are now over 800 outposts around the world.

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) was a 1971 merger between France’s Alliance Française and New York’s Museum of French Art, French Institute.

FIAF rebranded as L’Alliance New York in 2024.

The John and Francine Haskell Library is New York City’s largest French library.


Artists and Programs

Bastille Day Celebration street fair with live music and dance, champagne parties, film screenings, French market, and kids activities, is one of New York City’s main Bastille Day events. It has been drawing more than 30,000 French lovers, for over 20 years.

Crossing the Line festival brings Francophone performing artists from around the world to New York City.
