About the Metropolitan Opera House
The opera house opened officially on September 16, 1966 with a performance of Samuel Barber’s Antony and Cleopatra.
The two giant murals in the lobby are by Russian painter Marc Chagall: The Triumph of Music and The Sources of Music.
There is something about the enormity of the stage that is overpowering.
The best tickets may be expensive for some families, but you can get tickets in the Family Circle (the top balcony) for as little as $27. Many Opera lovers think the Family Circle has the best sound in the house.
