ABT’s Herman Cornejo & Luciana Paris on being Latin Ballet Dancers

ARGENTINE CONSULATE, MIDTOWN, November 10, 2015 ~ Herman Cornejo & Luciana Paris talk about their careers, working with Julio Bocca, and dancing for American Ballet Theatre

American Ballet Theatre was founded in 1940. Decades of touring across the United States and internationally have made ABT America’s National Ballet Company®.

Today ABT is led by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie and Executive Director Kara Medoff Barnett. McKenzie celebrates his 25th anniversary with the company in 2017.

Susan Jones is Principal Ballet Mistress

International choreographer Alexei Ratmansky is Artist in Residence.

Misty Copeland

Misty Copeland is the most famous ballet dancer in America since Mikhail Baryshnikov. Her performances often sell out. Misty broke the mold of what a prima ballerina could be. She single-handedly created opportunities for an entire generation of young dancers.

Herman Cornejo

Principal dancer Herman Cornejo is originally from Mercedes, San Luis, Argentina. He was trained by Julio Bocca and danced in Bocca’s Ballet Argentino. In 1997, Cornejo became the youngest ever Gold Medal winner of the International Dance Competition in Moscow.

Alexandre Hammoudi

Soloist Alexandre Hammoudi is originally from Paris, France. He did his early training with Max Bozzoni of the Paris Opera Ballet.

Roberto Bolle

Principal dancer Roberto Bolle is from the Piedmont region of Italy. He did his early training at the La Scala Theatre in Milan. Bolle is an international ballet superstar. Sadly for us, he spends most of the year performing in Europe. L’Arte della Danza is a 2016 documentary about Bolle.

Luciana Paris

Soloist Luciana Paris is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She studied at the Colon Theater Ballet Company before becoming Julio Bocca’s dance partner in Ballet Argentino. Paris joined ABT in 2001.

Corps de Ballet

American Ballet Theatre’s corps de ballet is filled with stars of the future.

José Sebastian

Sebastian is a Latin New Yorker. He is definitely a young dancer to watch.

 April Giangeruso

Giangeruso is Italian-American from Washington D.C.
