Little Island is a New York City park built on a pier in the Hudson River off of Manhattan’s Meatpacking District.

It’s a green space with river views on a pier that is fun to explore.

The island has an amphitheater for performing arts right on the river. It hosts many free pop-up daily and some ticketed cultural events for the entire family. Little Island is one of the best places to take your family to play outdoors in New York City.

Thank you Little Island for sponsoring New York Latin Culture Magazine! We are learning from you!

Little Island is a Storied Place

Little Island replaced Pier 55 and Pier 54. Pier 54 was once run by the Cunard-White Star line. It was where Titanic survivors were brought in 1912 and where the Lusitania departed before being sunk during World War I. The Pier 54 facade is still there. It’s beautiful, especially in the fog.

In the 1980s, Pier 54 became the home of Dance on the Pier which was part of NYC Pride. In the 1990s, it was integrated into Hudson River Park.

Hurricane Sandy damaged the pier in 2012. The site was redeveloped with the support the Diller real estate family. It’s becoming a model for what an urban park can be.
