June is Pride Month. New York is a creative city so it is a very LGBTQ+ city. The Stonewall Riots of 1969 in Greenwich Village energized the Pride movement.
It’s also Caribbean Heritage Month. Caribbean heritage is mostly West African and Central African. In Cuba and Puerto Rico, Yoruba traditions have largely absorbed the Dahomey and Kongo traditions that also rooted in the Americas. Nigerian Yoruba New Year is June 3, so June is important in many Caribbean cultures.
