We Love NYC: The Homecoming Concert is an all-star concert celebrating New York’s resilience to the 2020 pandemic. It’s been a really tough year and a half for all New Yorkers, but New York City always bounces back.

This is going to be NYC’s Woodstock, not in the wild way, but as a historic concert that everybody wishes they were at. The show is for 60,000 people. Some tickets are for purchase, but most for free.

Why is There no Jazz or Salsa in NYC’s Homecoming Concert?

New York City birthed modern jazz (bebop) and Latin jazz (cubop) in the 1940s. It birthed salsa in the 1960 and 70s. Rubén Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Arturo O’Farrill and Bobby Sanabria are some of the padrinos (godfathers) of Latin music, jazz and salsa in New York City.

The exclusion of jazz and salsa seems very short sighted. Latins are invisible ~ even in our capital city. What happened to Made in NYC (Twitter @MadeInNYC)?

The show is produced by New York City (Twitter @NYCMayor @NYCMOMEComish), Clive Davis (Twitter @CliveDavis) and Live Nation (Twitter @LiveNation @LiveNationNYC).
