When it opened in 1964 as the New York State Theater, it was run by New York City Center, which was New York City’s main performing arts center before Lincoln Center. d
The theater was renamed the David H. Koch Theater in 2008, after the oil-and-gas billionaire, one of the richest New Yorkers at that time, made a $100 million donation.
