Honduran New York City

Honduran NYC is mostly in the West Bronx and New Jersey. There is a Honduran Garifuna community in Crotona, The Bronx.

The Honduran Consulate is in Manhattan’s Garment District.

Honduran Culture

Honduran culture is a mix of Indigenous, Spanish, African and even Mexican influences.

Punta is a folk dance with a Garifuna heritage. It is all in the hips with some serious booty shaking. Both men and women dance it. It could be a predecessor to hip-hop and reggaeton dancing. It’s pretty cool really. “Punta” is a reference to Punta Gorda, Roatan, Honduras where the Garifuna people were exiled from St. Vincent by the British in 1797.

Honduras

Honduras has a large Caribbean coast and a small Pacific coast. As is common across Latin America, urban and rural life are very different.
