Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is a U.S. national celebration of Americans with a heritage from the Hispanic Americas or Spain. The name is misleading because American "Hispanics" are actually diverse mixes of Indigenous, European, African, and Asian people and cultures.

The celebration, from September 15 to October 15 every year, frames the independence days of Central America, Mexico, and Chile; the national day of Spain, Italian American Day (formerly Columbus Day), and Indigenous Peoples Day.

New York City's main celebrations include the Hispanic Day Parade, Queens Hispanic Parade, Italian American Day Parade, Indigenous Peoples Day Pow Wow, and the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas Parade.
