About Chelsea Factory

Chelsea Factory is a performing arts space in Chelsea, New York that presents historically excluded New York City-based artists.

The 1914 building was originally a taxi garage. In the 1990s, legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz (Vanity Fair) made it her studio. The neighborhood was still wild then. In 2005, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet made the building their home. It became an event space in 2015.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the space was reimagined to support New York artists. The presenting partners are a who’s who of strong New York City presenters, including Harlem Stage, Joyce Theater, Juilliard, National Sawdust, National Black Theater, and New Victory Theater.
