The National Puerto Rican Artisans and Authors Fair is a holiday market of Puerto Rican arts, crafts, and books made in Puerto Rico and the Diaspora. The fair also offers family entertainment.
It’s four hours by plane to Borikén, but you can get a little bit of Puerto Rico, right here in New York City. Thanks PRIDA and Comité Noviembre!

The Fair
The Fair is produced the Puerto Rican Institute of the Development of the Arts (PRIDA), and Comité Noviembre. PRIDA promotes Puerto Rican arts and culture. Comité Noviembre advocates for Puerto Ricans in New York, and promotes November as Puerto Rican Heritage Month.
Don’t let the handmade nature of the art make you think these are cheap tchotchkes (trinkets in Yiddish). Most of the artists are highly-educated professionals with advanced degrees in art or Puerto Rican studies.
This is the kind of art many creative people keep in their homes in Puerto Rico. There is often deeper meaning in the work than is obvious at first glance. We especially love the Santos de Palo, hand-carved wooden saints, and the vejigante masks, both the papier-mâché ones from Ponce, and the coconut ones from Loíza Aldea ~ la esencia de Borikén.
This reminds us of the artisanal fairs on Sundays in Old San Juan. If you are Boricua in the Diaspora or Boricua de Corazón, the art will make your heart ache with the need to go home. ¡WEPA!
