The Museum of the City of New York is on Fifth Avenue’s Museum Mile in “El Barrio” East Harlem, Manhattan.
New York is an interesting city and this is an interesting museum. A lot of American popular culture started here. New York is the home of baseball, Broadway, modern jazz (bebop), Latin jazz (cubop), salsa, disco, punk and hip-hop. Tango and reggaeton passed through.
New York City is always renewing itself, more than any place in the world. If you are interested in the glory days of some of the culture created in New York, you can still find it at the Museum of the City of New York.

Connecting Our Past, Present and Future
To be your fullest self, it’s important to know who you are. The Museum documents New York City history, but is also documenting what is happening now.
The Museum has historic Theater and Costume & Textiles collections, but also collects New York stories of today. These will become historical exhibitions some time in the future.
The Museum has put a large portion of its collection online where it can be enjoyed from anywhere in the world.
