About Jackson Heights

“In Jackson Heights” is Frederick Wiseman’s 2015 documentary about our communities.

The neighborhood was named for John C. Jackson, one of the original Queens colonizer families.

Jackson Heights is one of the places in New York City where many of us can find the sights, sounds and smells of our birth countries. If you haven’t been “home” in a long time, a visit to the neighborhood may very well bring tears to your eyes, because it feels like home for people from many nations.

  • The main business district is 37th Avenue from 72nd St to Junction Blvd.
  • Little India is around 74th St. 🇮🇳
  • Little Pakistan is around 73rd St. 🇵🇰
  • Little Bangladesh is around 73rd St. 🇧🇩
  • Little Colombia is on 37th Avenue around 77th St. 🇨🇴
  • Little Mexico is on Roosevelt Avenue from 74th to 108th St. 🇲🇽
  • Little Tibet is the second capital of the Tibetan exile world.
  • The Jackson Heights Historic District is from 76th St to 88th St, between 34th Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue.
