The sentiment, color, and spirit of the native Mexican tradition comes to life in Calpulli Mexican Dance Company’s Dia de los Muertos, under the Artistic Direction of Alberto Lopez Herrera. Through Mexican folk dance, classical ballet, and live music, a timeless story of love and hope comes to life.

In Dia los Muertos, two young lovers are torn apart by a cruel twist of fate. Through Mexican folk dance, classical ballet, and live music, the universal story explores the connection between the world of the living and those dearly departed.

Mictlan, the beautiful underworld of Aztec mythology, is the home of our dearly departed where La Catrina reigns as Queen. Two young lovers struggle to reconnect after a cruel twist of fate. Will they reunite? Come see at Dia de los Muertos.

We’ve seen rehearsals and Calpulli is amazing. Let’s be honest. Nobody expects much from a folkloric dance company, but Calpulli is world-class in dance, costume, makeup, and storytelling.

The first half of the show adapts parts of the Don Quixote ballet. The second half adapts parts of the Giselle ballet. Calpulli’s La Catrina, the Queen of the Underworld, offers a big surprise. Calpulli Día de los Muertos is exceptionally creative.

Calpulli Mexican Dance Company deserves to perform on the biggest stages.
