Founded in 1983, the Coney Island Mermaid Parade is America’s biggest “art” parade. It’s actually a summer solstice celebration with over 3,000 mermaids and mermen from the all of the seven seas.
The parade is a unique expression of the artistic character of Coney Island. The start of the parade is family friendly. The end of the parade is shall we say, “artistic.” If you are offended by almost bare breasts, then this isn’t the parade for you. But it is just spirited fun.
Hosts
- Queen Mermaid is Mx Justin Vivian Bond.
- King Neptune is Dr. Dave A. Chokshi.
