Federico Aubele Drops “Old Spanish Films,” 2nd Single From Coming Album “The Holographic Moon”

Federico Aubele is a New York Argentine singer-songwriter guitarist who makes Latin Alternative music from a Tango reference, with electronica and dub flavors. He lives in Brooklyn.

The Holographic Moon

Aubele’s sixth studio album “The Holographic Moon” drops on May 27, 2022. It features Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco (David Byrne, Forro in the Dark), and other guest artists.

The first single was “Pink Spray Painted Clouds.” Aubele released “Old Spanish Films,” second single from the album, on Wed, Mar 23, 2022. The video is also Aubele’s directorial debut.

Federico Aubele “Old Spanish Films”

Federico describes the song, “I wrote this song based on a personal experience that a lot of people have experienced too: the realization that a relationship I was in was built on projections, from both people in it, and didn’t have any real foundation.

This notion (and the end of the relationship) was obviously sad but in hindsight I can see that for the brief amount of time we were together we did give each other something valuable that we needed at the time, mostly companionship, and that we both contributed something positive to each other’s lives. We’re always giving each other something that can have value, whether we consciously notice it or not.”

Buenos Aires Berlin

Federico Aubele left Buenos Aires for Berlin during Argentina’s 2001 financial crisis. There he hooked up with Thievery Corporation and turned a trio of singles into his debut album “Gran Hotel Buenos Aires.”

Aubele’s “Postales” is a Tango nuevo classic that captures the romantic nostalgia that runs so strongly in his native Buenos Aires.

Federico moved on to Barcelona and made 2007’s Panamericana.

Next came 2009’s Amatoria and 2011’s Berlin 13.

Today Federico lives in Brooklyn. His latest release is his fifth studio album 5.

In New York City, Aubele fits perfectly with the Nublu sound. He’s worked with a number of artists from there including Ilhan Ersahin (Nublu), Sabina Sciubba (Brazilian Girls), Karina Zeviani, and Mauro Refosco (Forro in the Dark).
