53rd Hispanic Day Parade Review

Bolivia at the NYC Hispanic Day Parade 2017 by Keith Widyolar

The cover picture says it all. There were marchers, costumes, dancers, cars, floats, marching bands, and beauty queens.

But more than anything else there were excited children having one of the times of their lives marching up Fifth Avenue before hundreds of thousands of people.

We are proud of where we come from, but showing pride isn’t the only purpose of the parade. We want our children to know a something about the traditions where their parents or grandparents came from. That’s what the parade is really about, teaching the little ones where they come from.

The parade began with diplomats, officials, the NYPD, NYFD, and Department of Sanitation. Then came the Spaniards looking sharp in their uniforms, followed by marchers from Latin countries in alphabetical order: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, and so on. The parade really did last until 4pm.

We’ll definitely be back next year.
