Hunts Point, The Bronx is an industrial neighborhood on the East River waterfront that hosts one of the world’s largest food distribution complexes. It runs 24/7. The peninsula is formed by the Bronx River.
The neighborhood includes the New York City Terminal Market of fresh fruits and vegetables, the Hunts Point Cooperative Market (1962) of meat and poultry, and the New Fulton Fish Market. It is all supported by the Oak Point rail yard and the Bruckner Expressway (278). The markets are organized by Teamsters Local 202.
Cultural Venues

The Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education serves the Hunts Point community from Longwood, just across the Bruckner Expressway. casitamaria.org
NYC Parks
Joseph Rodman Drake Park is the home of the Hunts Point Slave Burial Ground. Drake was a distant relative of English pirate Francis Drake.
Barretto Point Park is on the East River. It has a swimming pool on a barge. It’s important to teach our kids to swim because in the past we weren’t allowed in the pools. The park isn’t named after New York salsa legend Ray Barretto, but why not?
The Julio Carballo Fields host youth sports programs.
Visit Hunts Point
The neighborhood is served by the (6) line in Longwood, just across the Brucker Expressway. The stops are East 149th St, Longwood Ave and Hunts Point Ave.
Hunts Point History
The land is Wecquaesgeek nation land. European colonizers from the Jessup and Richardson families stole it in 1663. The neighborhood is named for family member Thomas Hunt, Jr.
The rural area along the East River was an elite vacation spot until a wave of development began after World War I. The rail yard destined the neighborhood to become an industrial zone.
New York City’s wholesale market used to be the Washington Market where the World Trade Center (WTC) is now. To build the WTC, the market moved to Hunts Point.
The residential part of the neighborhood is traditionally Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 with growing African American 🇺🇸, Dominican 🇩🇴 and Mexican 🇲🇽 communities.

The neighborhood is served by New York City Council District 17 and District 18.
