Renowned poet Rina Soldevilla to read at Peruvian-American Association

Rina Soldevilla is a renowned Peruvian poet, writer and social activist. She is the first Latina poet to recite at the offices of the U.S. Department of State and has been honored as a leading writer of her community at the U.S. White House.

Ms. Soldevilla has a gift for telling scary stories rooted in the rural traditions of her home region in the ancient Inca heartland in the foothills of the Andes mountains.


Rina Soldevilla

The artist was born in Huasahuasi, Peru, a small town between the capital and the mountain forests, in 1964.

In Peru she was a dancer and actress. She was trained by Peruvian actor Hudson Valdivia and Cuban playwright Reinaldo Arenas. Ms. Soldevilla now lives and works in New York City.

She has been recognized by Tauro College in New York City, The International Library of Poetry, and the Peruvian-American National Council. She was honored as an Outstanding Woman of 2014 by El Diario de la Prensa in New York.

Ms. Soldevilla has published a number of books in Spanish. She has now been translated into English as well.

  • La Cuna de mis Poemas (The Cradle of my Poems, 2017)
  • Tales of the Extraordinary (2018)

Rina Soldevilla in NYC

Ms. Soldevilla is doing a reading and book launch at the Peruvian-American Association in Manhattan’s Upper East Side on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 6:30 pm.

Peruvian food and refreshments will be served.
