Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca ‘Entre Tú y Yo’

Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca is one of New York City’s strong flamenco companies.

Joyce Theater

Tuesday-Sunday, November 19 to December 1 ~ Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca present Entre Tú y Yo at the Joyce Theater in Chelsea, NYC.

Tickets from $10 at joyce.org

‘Entre Tú y Yo’

“Between you and I” is based on German playwright Arthur Schnitzler’s 1897 play about provocative sexual themes set in Vienna. Couples pair up and then one goes on to a new partner in a very New York way. “Thank you, Next.”

In a nod to our times, this version of the show includes two women which for flamenco is a bit radical.

Noche Flamenca delivers a simple flamenco with star power. If you don’t like big stagey productions, this is your flamenco. It’s some of the best in New York City.

Cuban actress Sissi Fleitas, a big flamenco fan, said this show is really good.

Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca

The first thing about Noche Flamenca is Soledad Barrio. In 2011, the most important dance critic in the United States, Alastair Macaulay of the ‘New York Times,’ called her “one of today’s great dancers of any genre.” Wow!

Even as a little girl, Barrio loved to perform, but she only discovered the real flamenco when she saw Carlos Saura’s movie Bodas de Sangre (Blood Wedding) at age 19. Then she just did it. Within a year, Barrio became a professional dancer.

The second thing is Artistic Director & Producer Martín Santangelo. He managed to build this this company and keep it going for over 20 years. Wow!
