NYC Off-Broadway Week Fall 2023 Offers 2-for-1 Tickets to Select Latin Shows

NYC Off-Broadway Week Fall 2023 is a popular 2-for-1 ticket promotion to select Off-Broadway shows. New York is famous for Broadway theatre, but a lot of the action, especially Latin theatre, is Off-Broadway.

Latin Theatre in NYC Off-Broadway Week Fall 2023

NYC Off-Broadway Week Fall 2023 offers 2-for-1 tickets to Dominican, Mexican and Uruguayan Off-Broadway theatre. On sale Tuesday, September 19, 2023 for performances between October 3-15, 2023. 🇲🇽 🇩🇴 🇺🇾

This season offers tickets to 31 great Off-Broadway shows. These are the Latin shows.

La Breve y Maravillosa de Oscar Wao 🇩🇴

This is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Junot Diaz. It’s the semi-autobiographical story of a young man born in the Dominican Republic and growing up in Paterson, New Jersey.

“Oscar is a naive “nerd” from New Jersey who has finally left the grips of his imposing Dominican mother and is attending his first semester of college at Rutgers with his rebellious sister. He dreams of becoming the Dominican J.R.R. Tolkien and, most of all, finding love. But Oscar may never get what he wants. Blame the “fukú”—a curse that has haunted Oscar’s family for generations, following them on their epic journey from Santo Domingo to the USA. “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” explores the endless human capacity to persevere—and risk it all—in the name of love.”

In Spanish with English subtitles.
Repertorio Español in Kips Bay, Manhattan. From $17. repertorio.nyc

Bite Me 🇲🇽

Director Rebecca Martínez is an American whose family has lived in the American Southwest since it was Mexico.

“Nathan is ditching class when he stumbles on Melody crying in a storage closet – he’s a white boy with family money and dangerous habits, she’s the lone Black girl on campus, excelling academically and grappling with feelings of isolation. They form an unexpected bond and it’s not long before the heat between them boils over. Bite Me explores the drama (and trauma) of trying to fit in at high school, and the unfinished business waiting for them at their reunion a decade later. This captivating dark comedy dares to explore the raw undercurrents of youth, and the unspoken truths that bind us.”

WP Theater in the Upper West Side. From $29. wptheater.org

La Golondrina 🇲🇽

“La Golondrina” (The Swallow) is a famous old Mexican song about how migrating swallows always return home. American swallows migrate between Alaska and Mexico. The play isn’t about swallows, but rather about immigrant life.

“Ms. Amelia, a meticulous and well-respected singing coach, receives Ramon, a young man who wants to improve his vocal technique to sing a tribute at his recently deceased mother’s memorial. The chosen song, “La Golondrina,” has a special meaning for him and, apparently, for Amelia, who, despite her initial reticence, agrees to give him a lesson. As the afternoon progresses, the two characters unravel the details of their past, deeply marked by a terrorist attack in a bar.”

In Spanish with English subtitles.

Radojka 🇺🇾

Writers Fernando Schmidt and Christian Ibarzabal are Uruguayan playwrights. This is a comedy.

“Two women taking care of an elderly lady come together in order to survive and keep their job. They make a surprising decision that creates the most hilarious situations. What would you be willing to do to not lose your job?”

In Spanish with English subtitles.
