About Chelsea Factory

Chelsea Factory was formed in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, to provide a home for New York City performing artists to develop and present their work. It plays an important role in New York City’s creative ecosystem because The City is very creative, but Manhattan has priced itself out of the horizon of most artists.

The building has a long history. It started out as a taxi garage. In the 1990s, it was celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz’s (Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, etc.) photography studio and loft. New York City was a very different place then. In the 2000s, it became the home of Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. Chelsea Factory was founded in 2021.
