About United Palace

Built in 1930 as one of Loew’s “Wonder Theatres,” the United Palace was one of New York City’s premiere vaudeville and movie houses until 1969. The architect Thomas Lamb also designed the Cort and Ziegfeld theaters. The interiors are a modern baroque fever dream. It’s really beautiful. The interior designer Harold Rambusch also designed the Waldorf Astoria and Radio City Music Hall.

In the 1970s, the United Palace of Spiritual Arts saved New York City’s fourth largest theater from demolition. The 3,350 seat theater is now a house of worship and center for popular culture for Upper Manhattan communities. Washington Heights is a Dominican neighborhood and the United Palace is one of New York’s centers of Dominican culture.

“The Muse” is a monthly community arts outreach program. This is cool because the United Palace isn’t just in the community, the Theater is part of it.
