Crown Heights is a Caribbean and Jewish residential neighborhood in central Brooklyn.
It’s the home of the New York Carnival and West Indian Day Parade, Panamanian Parade. Cultural venues include the Weeksville Heritage Center and Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
The Caribbean food is really good.

The 27th Panamanian Parade NYC 2022 (Desfile Panameño) marches through Crown Heights, Brooklyn, from Bergen St down Franklin Ave, across President Street to the Panamanian Street Fair on Classon Avenue and Union Street on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 12noon. 🇵🇦
WeeksVille was a Historic Free Black Community
Weeksville was one of the largest free Black communities in pre-Civil War America.
It was founded by African American longshoreman James Weeks in 1838 as part of an effort to establish citizenship by owning land. To be eligible to vote in those days, non-white men had to own land and pay taxes on it.
This once vibrant community slowly faded and was forgotten as the city grew. It was only rediscovered in 1968. Four homes were found on Bergen St. They are now known as the Hunterfly Road Houses.
The Weeksville Heritage Center preserves the neighborhood’s history.
