Chelsea NYC

Chelsea NYC is a warehouse and residential neighborhood that has become New York City’s main art gallery district.

It’s the home of the High Line, Chelsea Market, Chelsea Piers, Madison Square Garden, Joyce Theater, City Winery, La Nacional, art galleries, night clubs and dance studios. It is also one of NYC’s traditional LBGTQ+ neighborhoods.

Hudson Yards is a sub-neighborhood.

Chelsea’s boundaries are:

34th St
West Side Hwy | Chelsea | Sixth Avenue
14th St

The Chelsea Art District is roughly from 18th to 27th St, between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues. The Dia Art Foundation (now the Dia Chelsea) at 537 West 22nd St was the pioneer in 1987. Back then, Chelsea was a crumbling warehouse district and 22nd St was the only art street.

Thursday nights from 6-8pm is NYC’s main art gallery opening night. It’s really fun to walk around the art district. The art is great and the people watching is great. Dress to see and be seen. It’s a fun date too.
