Things to do in NYC in February 2024 include New York Fashion Week, and the Dance on Camera Festival.
February is Black History Month, supposedly because many famous African Americans and President Lincoln were born this month. But it’s also an important time in Mother Africa and the African Diaspora. It’s the Feast of Our Lady of Candelaria, patron saint of Tenerife, Canary Islands (67 miles off the African coast) and the African Diaspora. Brazilian Candomblé celebrates Yemayá on Candelaria’s day. Candelaria is important to African Diaspora drummers too. Carnival usually falls in February, and it’s the only time the Diaspora was allowed to celebrate its own traditions.
The February U.S. national holiday is Presidents Day.
Latin traditions include Candelaria, Maman Brigitte, and Lourdes. In the Latin world, Carnival Tuesday is February 21, 2023.
February weather is late winter, and New York City’s snowiest month. It’s still a great time to visit. You just have to plan because it’s cold outside and may be slushy after storms. Bring a jacket, hat, scarf, and gloves.
The first week of February is the cheapest time to visit New York City with deals on travel, lodging, food, and events.
