December 2019 New York Latin Culture Calendar

December 2019 is a busy holiday season that starts right before Thanksgiving Weekend in November; runs through Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year’s; and finally ends on Three Kings Day in January.

Most people don’t realize that Christmas is the world’s most popular Latin holiday. The City sidewalks bustle during the holidays. There is shopping on Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center and Madison Avenue. There are holiday markets in Columbus Circle, Grand Central Terminal, Bryant Park and Union Square.

There are holiday windows all over. The most famous are at Barneys, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s.

There’s the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting, and the world’s largest menorahs near Central Park and Prospect Park, Brooklyn. There’s the Winter’s Eve holiday festival and Brooklyn’s Dyker Heights Christmas Lights.

Indoors there is the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, New York City Ballet’s Nutcracker, Paul Winter’s Winter Solstice Celebration, Handel’s Messiah, the Metropolitan Opera’s Magic Flute, and Chris Botti’s annual holiday residency.

Outdoors there is ice skating in Central Park, Rockefeller Center, and the Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District. The Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden.

All of New York City becomes a winter wonderland.
